Vertical Curve Expression

I have a client who is requesting their vertical curve to be labeled with the following equation:

 

V/L = _____

 

Where. . . 

 

V = the grade change

L = profile curve length

 

I figured an expression is what I need.  I created an cuirve label expression named V-L in which I added the grade change and divided it by the profile curve length, and I set the format to double as so:

I then added the label to my profile curve label style:

However, when I do this the resulting value is always 0.00:

What am I missing?

Increase the precision on the label and you'll get a result. I did a sample that read 0.00, but with greater precision reads 0.00059910.

V/L = _____

 

Where. . . 

 

V = the grade change = A

L = profile curve length = L

 

A/L = ?

 

But K= L/A

 

1/K= A/L

 

Therfore V/L = 1/K

 

1/K = the grade change every unit of measure.

Joe,

 

Thanks for the information.  I'm not a PE, just an overglorified draftsman, so I did not recognize that.  That's something I'll pass onto my client and see if that works for him as well.

wonder what someone is going to do with 1/K when K=150 for 60mph = 0.0088 percent per foot
