Using Civil 3D to create a Civil Database of all urban infrastructures owned by

My primary history with Civil 3D has been using it for site development and some land development. The organization I am currently a part of hopes to use Civil 3D capture all the urban infrastructure on their various properties and use it as a method of tracking and maintaining all their information from a Civil/Urban Infrastructure perspective.

I am hoping that some people could get off some suggests on how to best manager such a database. I know it is possible with MicroStation using it with Oracle and Microsoft Access. Can Civil 3D work the same way like that or are there better ways to keep track of everything.

I am also hoping some people could also suggest best practices when it comes to constantly updating a surface base on continual development.

Any suggestion would be welcome. Thanks for the help.

Yes you can connect orcale and access databases using Map and Data connections.

Basically,

You create objects (2d polylines/closed polylines or points or lines)

Create object data tables and attach them to groups or individual entities. Then fill in the details.

export as sdf / shp file.

Probably best to look through the Map3d tutorials to find out how.
