Trying to Plot TIF XREF in Monochrome

Good Day

Can someone please assist me with how to set a colour TIF xref to plot in monochrome or black and white? I tried editing it on Paint but Paint cannot open the file type.

Do you  Use Color-Dependent Plot Styles or Use Named Plot Styles.

It doesn't look like it can be affected by the plot style. Try looking in the plotter configuration for somewhere to set it to Black and White. When I did that the preview still showed color but the plot was in B&W.

I think you will need to edit the TIF file, or a copy of it.

If you are using Civil 3D, you have Raster Design available. You can change to monochrome and adjust pixel density.

If you do not have Raster Design, or you want more control, use a third party editor. 

IrfanView is a good free utility that will let you edit graphics files. You can change color depth, change to monochrome, change resolution, crop, etc.

Edited files with appropriate color depth/monochrome and resolution settings will be smaller as well.
I see benefit for a 1200 dpi image if you will be printing at 300 or 600 dpi.

I have both and Irfanview is a good program. If the OP doesn't have a raster editor and can't download Irfanview. The method I described did work on a test plot to PDF.

Thanks, Allen. I misread your previous reply that even though the preview was color the pdf was monochrome.

Good information. I am a big fan of solutions that do not require third party software.

Hi @BushW

No, none of the proposed solutions worked. I eventually discovered by trial the option of editing the TIFF with AutoCAD's Raster options. In the Raster Tools tab I expanded the Process Image menu and selected Histogram, which launched AutoCAD Raster. I then selected the image. On the window that pops up there's a tab, I think, with the option of making the selected image black and white. That did it.
