Trim surface boundary to feature lines

Goo day,

I have created a surface using two feature lines which was offset on either side of my pipeline. Now I want to trim my surface boundary so that it follows the two feature lines. To ensure it is neat and accurate when I plot my profile view.

I tried to select the surface and then select "extract from surface' then "extract objects" then I moved the grips to neaten it up, but when I rebuild the surface it still looks the same. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Another question: I do not have a drawing template - I just started the drawing with the default template. I also did not setup my pipe parts list from the start. Will I be able to add custom title block to the sheets and will I be able to change the pipe material and parts later in my project? Sorry I am relatively new to Civil 3D and learning as I go along.

Thank you in advance

Hi,

For the surface quiery you can follow this method.

1. Offset the two FL line by smaller amount (like 0.01m or 0.001m) to the outside.

2. Then explode them. You will get two 3D polylines

3. Now convert them to 2D polylines

4. Using AutoCAD line/polyline tools create a closed polygon using the two polylines you obtained by exploding FLs.

5. Now add this polygon as an outer boundary to your surface.

For the second question, you can use reference templates.

HI Jeewana,

Thank you so much. I have done all the steps successfully, however I am not sure how to add the boundary to the surface?

Do I create a surface and then under "boundaries" I select "add" and then click on the closed polyline?

I did that, however I got a whole list of errors and the surface doesn't show on the model space.

Thank you

It was bit tricky,

Had to copy the two FL to another dwg and to the explode and connecting as polyline.

Then back to the dwg and add as a boundary.

Dear Jeewana,

Thank you so much! This is a great help!

I find most things tricky with Civil 3D! 😉

I will test out the "add as boundary" process until I get it. For now, I need to proceed with the next steps, as the project timeline is tight.

Thanks again!
