The Incredible Shrinking Command Bar

I have had this issue since I began using civil 3d, but it appears to have been an issue forever.  Every time I click on the New Tab button, to get to the Start Drawing Templates (which I have spent alot of time setting up correctly) and switch back to an open dwg or close the new tab, my command bar shrinks.  It has done this ever since day 1, as far as I can remember, and its annoying to have to unlock the ui, resize/reposition the bar, and re-lock the ui every time I make a new file.

Others have posted similar problems, but none have dealt with New Tab and the fact that it cleans the screen every time it is activated.  I happen to have half of my toolbars on my other screen, so the screencast does not show the whole picture.  Even switching between an open dwg and New Tab cleans the screen.  I find using New Tab and create from template to be more convenient than navigating to my template file and opening it every time I need to start a new dwg.

My workspace setting is set to Automatically save changes, so this is irritating as heck.  The help file only lists 5 options for LockUI, but I found

LockUI 15 on another post, and it almost does all the locking I could ask for.

Is there anything I may have overlooked? Some hidden workspace option perhaps?  I used the default Civil 3d ws and modified it to suit.

Apologies if this rant is in the wrong place.

Re-size the command area and then save your workspace. Does that help?

Nope.  Still behaves in the same way.

What if you dock the command line?

Also, look at the properties for the icon you use to open Civil 3D. Does it call a profile that's on disk or an internal profile?

Target: "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2017\\AecBase.dbx" /p "<<C3D_Imperial>>" /product "C3D" /language "en-US"

See how mine uses /p "<<C3D_Imperial>>" ? That's calling an internal (registry-based) profile and that profile updates when you make changes to your interface. If it says something like /P "c:\AutoCAD Standards\Profiles\Tim's Profile.arg" then it is calling an external, file-based profile. This will not be updated as you make changes to your screen and could be the source of the problem.Make changes to the interface and then export the profile over the top of the one being called by the icon.

Docking the command line seems to be the best solution.  It keeps to the same spot no matter what I do to open a file.  Still, I would rather have that extra space at the bottom of the screen.  That's why I dragged those toolbars onto the other screen and locked the ui in the first place.

As for the target, it says "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\acad.exe" /ld "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2015\\AecBase.dbx" /p "<<C3D_Metric>>" /product "C3D"

However, I normally do not launch cad by clicking on the icon, but by double clicking on the 1st file I need for the day.  I can open all the dwgs I need from one explorer window.  This method opens civil 3d just like I want it to, and does not require me to then open a drawing thru cad.  It launches with my workspace already loaded and I usually don't have to log into my 360 account, as It's already logged in.

So after docking the command line, and using cad for the last month, I find that every time I log off my workstation and log on again (whether it's the next day or over the weekend makes no difference), the command line reverts to the original location no matter what I do to save my profile or A360 settings.  I will try moving it to my other screen and seeing what happens, but I don't have much hope.

Set Startup to 0 and then Dock Lock and Restart.

@rl_jackson I can't tell you how many times I have done that very thing, only to have CAD revert back to a previous setup despite my having verified my workspace and A360 were current and logged in.  This time it loaded correctly, but I don't have faith in CAD to do the same tomorrow.

On top of all of this, I started getting this pop up message yesterday.  I think it has to do with Screencast, but I haven't had a chance to investigate yet.
