Text Mask in label plotting as black - 2016

Hello. I sometimes need to place labels outside of my primary viewport to avoid overlapping lines. To do that I create a small parrellel viewport with all layers frozen except for my Text layer. If there was a way to add Civil 3d labels to paperspace I would just do that, but since there's not, this method usually works.

Screenshot from Civil 3D:

When I plot, labels that have a text mask applied will sometimes plot all black. See PDF screenshot below:

Capture.PNG

Both the Northing/Easting text box and the elevation in my labels have a background mask applied, but only the elevation mask plots black. Also, there are two labels next to each other in the bottom annotation viewport, but only one of them has the text issue. If I un-freeze the layers in the annotation viewport, the black mask will disappear.

I know I should submit this as a bug, but I currently don't have my own subscription account, so I thought I'd try here first. Has anybody else encountered this, and are there any workarounds besides creating a no-mask label style?

Thanks,

Kevin

This behavior is usually related to the printer/plotter selected. Have you tried a different one that prints to PDF? It can also be related to the PDF viewer not translating the mask correctly, have you tried a different PDF viewer?
