I know this thread is 3 years old, but even in civil 2018 this problem persists.

Everything will behave as its supposed to, then suddenly text commands no longer work.

Nothing shows up in the text bar at the bottom of the screen.

The only work around I have found was to save my drawing, close it, then re-open it.

Magically it will work again.

I wish Autodesk would stop pumping out the same garbage every year and try focusing on fixing the problems that have persisted for the past 10 years.

BUT thats highly unlikely.

What incentive exists for them to do that? They get paid the same regardless if bugs are fixed or not, because all of us C3D users require C3D for our business.

AutoCAD is a little different, because there are alternatives out there that can create and edit .DWG files equally as well or better. But with verticals, users/companies get locked in since there are no/few paths out.

Some say that Autodesk's primary focus is on selling renting new seats to new customers. Make your own judgement on that.

I couldnt agree more.

I use C3D for calculating and designing earth works at a mine site.

One of our contractors was using Carlson.

He ran his entire survey and design program with it, Machine control, everything.

Once this license c3d license is up, I think im going to give Carlson a try.

There is no reason a computer like mine should be crashing from feature lines, or grading.

Text boxes not working...

every day it seems I run into something.

I cant even count how many reports ive submitted to Autodesk.

You still have to have a CAD engine (i.e: AutoCAD) on which to run Carlson, unless you use their all-in-one product with the IntelliCAD engine or the embedded AutoCAD OEM engine. The latter will not allow for any customization, including the use of lisp files and other add-ons.

I'm hoping this works. I recall working in a drawing with a large surface that prompted CAD to change my settings which seems around the time this issue of the invisible text occurred.
