Templates do not load with QNEW

Hi, I have a new issue that now whenever opening a new drawing, my QNEW path setting doesn't work and I get a standard metric drawing opening without any of my template settings and also when opening any other template from my templates folder, all the drawing open the same way, i.e standard metric

Have tried changing the file path but seems something is overriding all new drawings.

Thanks

Did this ever work or is this a new installation?

Wondering if there is a maximum # of characters in the file path that has been exceeded.

It worked previously, the only change has been our company moving to the cloud but the software is installed on machine and templates used to be on the company server. Have tried a shorter path to my hard drive on my machine also, with no success.

Check your drawing template file location setting.

Template folder is correct also. Can locate all templates from start menu, including 'out of the box' templates plus my custom templates, but they all open the same way  as a standard drawing with no pre- built layers or styles

Think I might be finding out why, seems all my templates are in a more recent version than my C3D 2021! even though I created my own ones. Have attached my dwt here, please let me know if you can open it, if so kindly send back as 2013 or something? Have also attached teh error message I recive when trying to open the file directly from my drive and not through C3D. No idea why they would have changed, even the 'out of the box' templates are the same.

Blair,
I can't open your DWT. I get same "could not be opened" message. RECOVER gives "Unable to recover drawing file" message. Corrupt drawing?

I was able to open the posted DWT with Civil 3D 2020.1.2 with no issues.  So, 2021 should be able to open it as well.

As an experiment, try this:

  1. Put a copy of your company's template folder on your company's server. If you can't, then put a copy of it directly on your hard drive.
  2. Re-establish the QNEW folder in Options=>Files=>Template Settings=>Default Template File for QNEW.

If you are successful in opening the correct template then the issue is accessibility to the CLOUD, the location where your template is now stored and indicates the QNEW button cannot access the CLOUD.

I tried using DWG TrueView on it and I get the same message, that the drawing was created with a newer version. How can that be? Are you on a Beta program of some sort and used Beta software to create the template?

Accepted solution

Hi all, update to this and thanks for the help and suggestions.

Have worked out the issue and may want to kep this in mind if your company goes through the same procress.

While migrating our company away from site based servers to the clould, all of our .dwt files were corrupted. I was able to local our orignal files on our local  server and recopied them across and the problem is now solved.
