Symbols...Symbols...Symbols...

Dear sirs, I am so busy with working during the day and drawing at night that I do not have the time at the moment to research how to create symbols. Civil3d only has one symbol for a survey property corner. Do any of you land surveyors have multiple symbols for property corners that you could share with me? I have an open circle, a filled in circle, and a square for a monument. That is not nearly enough. I received a dynamic block of symbols but do not know how to bring it in. please help??

Yeah seems like my paths are somehow messed up, or I could easily follow what you are saying. I will try again

A folder can be hidden??

I actually don't think it is in this case, but yes, it can be. Any file or folder can be hidden.

Right-click on a file or folder in Windows Explorer, go to properties and you can check the box "Hidden".

Once this is done, you won't be able to see it unless you switch the toggle that Allen showed you. And then when they do show up they are faded a bit (in Windows 7 anyway).

Mostly it's used to hide away system folders for the operating system or programs; stuff that we shouldn't really be touching anyway.

Erik,

I did a search of my C Drive for "Symbols" and found a wealth of drawings. I didn't pay enough attention to know exactly from whence they came (I've got 2014, 2015 and 2016), but here's one that might suit you. Attached.

But where did you find all of those symbols?? This symbol thing is becoming a nightmare to me. I can type symbol insert and there are a (minimal) list of symbols but its not enough. There is one tree symbol in there, one iron pin in there and a shrub symbol. I have a tree location drawing with different types of trees, but I only have one tree symbol in my list to chose from. Its driving me batty.

Thanks Dave, but when I open that ans type symbol insert only a handful come up. I need like 10 different trees, and more property cor symbols. It would seem that civil3d would have them, but I am going bonkers trying to locate them. Surely there are more than one tree symbol on this amazing program.?

Man I have tried u tube.... Knowledge network...now I'm trying civil3d tutorials which took me to design center....but they say in design center navigate to the data folder\symbols\mvblocks. I can't find any of that... I don't get it...but if I can figure out how to use your trees you will have saved me at least tonight's headache thanks

Erik,

Right-Click your start button, select Open Windows Explorer.

Select your C Drive and where it says "Search Local Disk C:" type in 'mvblocks'. It'll take you right to it.

I did, but it said something like Firefox does not recognize the file type or something like that. Also I downloaded a whole page of trees under one file on the other site. Do I need to go back and try to download one at a time...or just open it in a drawing...explode it and save them one by one? At any rate I got my drawing done... Much thanks... Can you find other survey symbols on there??
