Survey Database Point Groups

When importing points into Civil 3D within the Survey tab (into a survey database) a point group is created automatically within the Prospector tab named the same as the point file or FBK file.  I have a user who does not want this functionality. I know I can simply delete the point group and the points remain, but is there a way to turn off the option so that no extra point groups are created?  If so, I've not found it.

Thanks for any help in this matter,

Jason,

I've never found a way either. What's worse is that the Point Group randomly and inexplicably chooses a Point Marker for you.

To stop the point group from being created you need to change how you import the points in the drawing. Simply expand the database goto survey points and right-click, Import points into drawing. This should resolve your issue.

Do not import points when you import them to the database. Basically a making it two stemps instead of one. (Import to Db  - Import to drawing)

AHA!!!!  I see said me who is blind as can be.

You must first go through the process of importing the points, but in the "Survey Data - Import Options" dialog box you must toggle off the option to insert survey points:

Import Options.jpg

Then proceed to the Survey Points in the database tree and insert from there:

Insert Into Drawing.jpg

Back in the Prospector you'll see you have only one point group. . ._All Points!!!

@rl_jackson, thanks for the input.  You helped tremendously.

Yep. You got it. It's a really PITA IMO, but that extra point group is a bigger PITA, and I found that when I deleted the group from the drawing it also deleted the points.

You can also set up the survey database so that the points never come in on import under the DB settings, which is what I did and just always import the points after I import to the Db.

Its more or less just a change in workflow.

Jason,

I was scratching my head over RL's Solution until you posted those screengrabs. AHA! Now I see.

RL,

Thanks for clearing up that brain-boggling mystery.

Yeah, I'm a screenshot junkie when I need to be.  I just use it for my own clarification and understanding and to avoid any possibility of ambiguity because when it's all said and done, I'm pointing others here as well.

Thanks to you both!!!
