Survey Data Collection Link

Hi Folks;

Here is my problem. I have the survey automation sort of up and running and have been doing some test runs to work out the bugs. But I have discovered that when we run the automation on a different machine it plots differently compared to my station. (Mine does not plot like it should).

Both stations are using the Survey Link DC 7.5.5 when we convert the Raw data file (.rw5) to a field book File. Both stations are C3D 2015 version.

Any Ideas as to where to start looking? I am thinkng the default settings for the Survey Link conversion could be different or it is a problem with the template file.

You'll need to copy the figure, equipment and code and SDB files from your machine to the other machine.

These files can be found here:

C:\Programdata ........................ (see below)

figures.png

You could also set them to a server path - but if your only doing a couple of systems I recommend a direct copy. (Less issues with server latency)

As with my post above.

So you have an FBK file or ASCII (PNEZD) file (both can do line work coding)

For points with Symbols you'll need to establish Description Keys. So if you have FH (Fire Hydrant) it sees the code and uses the Fire Hydrant point style.

Linework is simliar to description keys except it used the FIGURE PREFIX DATABASE (FPD) on the survey tab.

In this case if the field code is BOC (Back of Curb) You create the Figure Prefix BOC in the FPD and set the layer for the figure.

Anytime it sees BOC it will initiate a line (You don't need a B, but I would recommend using until you get the hang of things)

When it sees BOC1 it will start a new line, and so on....

I have the items from your second post set up.
I will try and copy items from your first post tomorrow and see what happends. Do the files in the second post not save correctly to a template file?

The survey database files all go to the same directory. They are not in anyway connected to your template. Look at the SDB and all its settings as stand alone

Also to add to that. The only connection they share is the reference to the figure settings and styles

On another note. If you have those files setup on you machine and set up in your SDB. You can write the settings out to a user SDB settings file and use that to change all the settings on the other machine. I wrote a little tutorial for this when I'm at my PC tomorrow I'll locate it and post it here

Would have been nice if autodesk mentioned this in the help files, unless I missed it.

I can't remember if it's there or not. The files and paths give the signal though. My tutorial will help

@Anonymous

Attached are presentation files I but on about 3 years ago (Point Import.dox is mine). This was more of a training and show / discuss thing. I have'nt kept things updated. But this should give you a general idea on setup.

Also: The is AU Document and C3D Styles & Layers PDF from Advanced Technologies Solutions, that I've used as a basis of some of my template setup.

Thanks RL

I will go thru the information you posted in the next few days and maybe by following the process you have outlined I can figure out what I goofed up on.

Ok I found part of the problem. It appears that the automation is following the point numbers and not the codes.

Resulting in parellel lines jogging back and forth between the survey shots.

The "Process linework sequence" is set for " By Import Order", yet it is still following the point numbers.

I have attached a portion of the file. I know part of the problem is the coding from the surveyor who has been

surveying the same way for the last 400 yrs. and is learning a new process.

Ok so it sounds to me like your codes are typical. If you want to do one side is a street at the back of curb. You would use the code BOC for the right. And BOC1 for the left.

ok that much I understand. Take a look at the file I posted above.

The red line is the Underground Elect. and should be parrelle to each other. (Near the middle of the drawing )Put its following the point numbers and not the codeing. The same thing is happening with the gas lines (puky green color near the top of the survey)

I'm not at a PC. But I'm thinking FBK my only allow by #, as collected. ,t hat is how it has always worked. That being said. You can select the figure rigth click and edit figire prolerties to change the order for the area in question. Sometimes I will do these edits directly within the fbk or ASCII file

Ok the mystery thickens.

It does not seem to matter weather I edit the FBK file or the Raw Data file.

In fact I just discovered that if I edit the Raw file and then convert to a fbk some of the coding is not there.

The raw file shows the corrections I made, but when I check those lines in the fbk the coding is gone.

Survey Collection Link>Convert File Format>Input: Raw Data File> Input Type: TDS Raw Data (.rw5)> Output Type: Autodesk-Softdesk FBK

PS: Dave P. I fixed the coordinate setting. So I think I am back in Ks. and not Neb. LOL

Think I have it figured out. Not sure why it didn't occur to me earlier.

As a test I created my own fbk file, by copping out some of the point codes and then rearranging them (by point number) in order as a surveyor would follow a gas line. Did this with gas 1 & gas 2. They now plot parellel to each other.

Do the survey shots need to be in consecutive order as the surveyor follows a gas line, curb, edge pavement...ect? This would explain why the automation is following the point numbers and jogging all over the place.
