Hi-
We have a new employee who is telling me our setup for survey files is all wrong. He is saying that each project should have a .crd file associated with it. Is that correct? We set our files and databases to a coordinate system in C3D. Do we need a .crd file also? What about when the database is rotated? Do we need one then? Everything I've read says .crd files are from Carlson so I'm confused.
Also, what is the Data Sources Location on the Files tab of the Options dialog box for? Is it for survey databases?
Any help with these questions would be much appreciated.
Thanks so much!

I don't see any CRD files being created by C3D. Only from our Carlson data collector.
You have to set the path for the Survey Database on the Survey Tab. The Data source on the files tab is probably for other types of connected databases.

Your new employee will need some time to adapt to Civil3D. They were used to Carlson where an external CRD file was created and updated. While I'm not debating Carlson -vs- Civil3D I believe everything should be kept in the drawing with the possible exception of large surfaces (and maybe images).
In summary, you do not need an external CRD file, but your new employee could use some training.
Thank you, both. I'm so happy to hear that my instincts and knowledge were accurate.
I really appreciate it!

There is also a utility that keep the Suvey working folder with the drawing.
