Surface Spot Elevation Marker not plotting per layer plotstyle setting

Hello Fellow CAD Users,

I hope someone can help me with this most frustrating issue.  We are using Civil3D 2017 and named plot styles (.stb).   For our Civil drawings we usually screen back the existing conditions, but I am noticing a specific problem with the General Marker (see style attached) that we use to label the surface spot elevations.  The surface label objects are set to reside on layer 0.  Within the marker style the marker component is set to layer E-SRF-SPOT-TEXT,  with all display settings set to Bylayer.  The layer E-SRF-SPOT-TEXT is set to a plot style that prints in 50% screen, however when the drawing is plotted, the marker is plotting black (see sample plot attached).

As a test, I changed the color of layer E-SR-SPOT-TEXT and the color of the marker updates accordingly, which leads me to believe that the issue is isolated to the plotstyle.

Does anyone out there know if this is a known issue?  Is it a bug related to using stb vs. ctb?

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thank you,

Elle

You didn't mention your version of Civil 3D...

Thank you Tim- I did specify Civil 3D 2017.  Was there something else I needed to include?

Thank you.  I have double-checked everything:)  As for the plot style, the other part of the label object (the elevation text label) is plotting correctly, so I don't believe the plot style is the issue.

No, nothing else to include. I just can't read, I guess. 😉

Is your marker a block? Check the block components to see their plot style setting.

Can you share a drawing containing the marker as well as share the .stb file? It will make things much easier to troubleshoot.

If you don't want to share it publicly, let us know, I can give my email to share it directly if needed.

Thank you Tim.  I was using one of the custom markers"X"., and that was the problem! To my knowledge you can't access the settings for those but they apparently are not entirely bylayer.  I created a new block symbol and assigned that as the marker and now when I screen the layer the marker is screened as it should be.  Thank you so much for your question as it made me look at something I would not have thought of!  Problem solved!  Can you please Accept as Solution as I do not have this option since I needed to reply first.

Thank you and have a great day 🙂

Problem solved, but thank you so much for offering to look at the file.
