Surface Labels

If I have a Proposed Surface and it is labelled with spot and slope surface labels in a drawing called Grading.dwg.

And I data shortcut that surface into a drawing called Sections.dwg.

And I want to show a portion of the plan view of Grading.dwg in my Sections dwg but I don't want to X-ref it into the Sections.dwg because the Proposed Surface from the Grading Plan is Data Shortcut into the Sections.dwg and I don't want to create a circle reference.

Is there a way to bring over just the surface labels from the Proposed Surface in the Grading.dwg into the Data Shortcut Surface in the Sections.dwg, without having to re-label everything individually on the Data Shortcut Surface in the Sections.dwg plan?

I guess I am looking for the Auto-draft button. Smiley Tongue

I don't know if this will work in 13...I ma not sure if all of the labels permit reassigning the reference object.

In the source file, select the surface and all the labels you need. Select the surface first. Copy to the clipboard with 0,0 base. Paste into new file with 0,0 base. Select all of the labels and change the assigned surface in the properties dialog. Delete the duplicate surface.

Thanks.  Sounds like it would work.  But in I can't change the labels reference surface in 2013.  Notice it is grayed out below.  Can you change the reference surface in 2014 or 2016?

Thanks, you concept worked once I created a reference text to a surface in my label style.

I then referenced the surface in my properties dialog.

Yes you can do it in newer version. Each release has opened up more.

Glad you got it worked out. Good thinking with the ref txt.
