Surface elevations on offset alignments

Hello everyone,

So I have a centerline alignment, two offset alignments and an EG surface. I need to list the coordinates at 0.50m intervals on each of the offset alignments with the elevation of the EG surface. And I need to know the station of each point. So the list should have this information: EST, Northing, Easting, EG elevation.

The thing is, I need the station of the offset alignment to be exactly perpendicular to the centerline alignment, for example on a horizontal curve, the interval which is 0.50m on the centre should become shorter on the inside of the curve and larger on the outside so the three coordinates are aligned and are perpendicular to the centerline alingment. Such as what corridos do.

Can you help me achieve this? I have tried in many ways but none seem to work for me, I suppose I could use a corridor but I don't know what do I use to create the assembly. I'm completely at a loss.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Anonymous

A corridor is a good idea! But I think Project Explorer can accomplish what you’re needing. You can generate a table or a CSV export with stations measured  along the parent alignment and using the compare to feature to establish the reference location and elevations on the offset alignments.

Project Explorer is an add on available for Civil 3D 2020 and later with the AEC collection subscription here is a link!

hope this helps,

If you like to go with the corridor method, you can use this video as guidance. Here instead of the centerline you need to get the point at the offset alignment using code sets.

First create points on one offset alignment. Then use station offset point report, export points report to export data.

Combine these two reports to get your desired result.

Then do the same for the other side.

You could do this with Corridor Points with a Corridor that targets EG, but I want to try @samir_rezk suggestion using only Offset Profiles that sample EG… in Project Explorer, no Corridor.

@Jeew-m  Interesting, I'm just bookmarking this to review tomorrow. Something I thought should be available in codesets (corridors) long ago and gave up on. You may have made my stakeout dreams come true. Kudos

Once you create your points on the alignment (under create points, measure alignment) and set them you EG surface elevations (select them all, right click and elevations from surface) you can run the 'Station Offset to Points' report in the toolbox tab of prospector to produce what you are looking for. 3 or 4 formats are available, including csv which can be linked to a cad table. It appears the new Project Explorer will do the same type report, but will need to be configured to not overload the report with additional, unwanted data.
