Surface Contour Display

I have created my surface model and now I want to display 1 & 5 contours for the side slopes of my basin and 0.25 and 0.5 contours for the grading at the bottom of the basin. How should I go about doing this?

So far now I just extracted the bottom grading and made it a new surface in a new drawing. Any other methods or suggestions? Also since my new is a cropped surface from a different dwg, if I edit the original surface will me cropped surface be updated?

Give your current surface a style that displays the 1 and 5 contour interval. 

Make a new surface, paste the current surface into it and give it an outer boundary at the bottom of the basin side slopes. Give this new surface a style that displays contours at the 0.25 and .5 interval
