Spot checks ESRI maps vs BING

Did a bit of spot checks with 2025 Geolocation vs 2024 Geolocation using the new ESRI images. Here is one example. Why am I excited about the ESRI stuff again?

The ones I've looked at seem of poorer quality than the Bings ones

It does give you a different view which is nice.  For example the image on the left has extreme shadowing next to the building rendering details more difficult to discern.  I'm sure I could adjust the contrast to extract those details as needed.

I think the key to these is to keep the geomapimage objects rather small, I go about 100x100 feet.  Then I create a ton of them to cover the area needed.

I like the Esri Open Streetmap option

@neilyj666 Me too, its a good option for several workflows.

I haven't tested extensively, but it appears to me that the Bing imagery is, and has been, off by a distance that is suspiciously close to the Int/US Feet difference in my high latitude, and that the Esri imagery is closer to reality. I'd be interested to know if anyone concurs.

I captured a couple of adjacent areas near where I live and they didn't line up - don't know which was correct as no actual survey data. This isn't a major problem as I use the aerial imagery as background rather than using it as a basis for detailed design.

I did notice (as mentioned above) that the Bing imagery isn't as clear and I couldn't use the Very Fine quality option in Esri imagery although there was no problem with Bing.
