section band surface selection

i was trying to put a band in my cross sections showing existing grade and proposed grade at the centerline. for some reason the surface generated from the corridor is not available. i seemed to remember if the surface was still linked to the corridor it wasn't able to be selected so i thought i would create another surface that as detached from the corridor. i thought there was an option when creating a surface from a corridor to create a detached surface but i can't find it. so first, why can't i select the linked surface from the corridor and second why can't i create a detached surface from the corridor?

Select a Sample Line from the drawing.

On the Ribbon, select Sample More Sources. The Corridor Surface might be listed on the left, meaning it is in the drawing, but not being used as a data source for this Sample Line Group. Select the surface from the left and press the button to move it to the right.

thanks! that makes sense that it needs to be sampled before it can be labeled.
