search for words in drawing files in folder of many files

I need a way to search for words within drawing files in a folder of many files.  Not words in the file name or words in a block attribute, (the design center search does this but this is useless) but general typed in words that could be in a note, title block, or say a detail within the drawing.

Thanks in advance,

TT

JTBworld.com has a batch attribute editor that will scan as many files as you wish

I don't want an attribute editor, I want something, hopefully free, that will tell me what drawings contain a certain word or words out of a folder of autocad drawings.

DotSoft has just released the drawing search tool from ToolPac in our freeware section.  Search quickly through multiple drawings for specified word strings, while specifying which objects and tables to search.

This has also been submitted to the Autodesk App Store, but it usually takes 2-3 weeks for review and approval.

Thanks Terry but I could not get the software to run.  Something about "loadFromRemoteSources switch" which I know nothing about.

.NET Assemblies should be placed on a local drive (not a network volume) to avoid the need to use CASPOL.  Make a folder like C:\CADSTUFF and place the contents of the ZIP in that folder.  You may need to add a trust to that folder in AutoCAD, that procedure is documented in the tools help section.

Lynn,

Still no luck.  I have loaded the .cuix program and I see the ribbon tab but when I click on it I get,

Command: DWGsearch
Unknown command "DWGSEARCH".

I have checked my security options and the folder is a trusted folder.

???  What now?

With the ZIP package you also need to NETLOAD the appropriate DLL file (likely DwgSearch18a.dll).  I got word that the AppStore build is approved and should be available tomorrow, which will have an easy to use installer.  So if NETLOAD doesn't do it, delete the downloaded files and check this page tomorrow.

Glad to hear it.  If the tool makes you more productive, please consider leaving a brief review with a ranking (up to five stars) at the App Store.
