Saved with a newer version all entities created within a drawing are proxy state

Our offices is working in 2018 and we have a drawing that when we open it gives us the message "This drawing was created with a newer version of Civil3d.  All entities created by Civil 3D within the drawing are in a proxy state.  Additionally all commands, settings, and displays of Civil 3D are disabled for this drawing".  However nobody in our office has 2019.  Is there anyway to fix this drawing and/or what could have caused this?

2019 is a 2018 file format. So, you wouldn't get this message even if it was opened and saved in 2019. They are compatible with each other.

Are you sure you didn't open up 2016 or 2017 and try to open a 2018 file?

I hadn't thought about that.  I suppose it is possible someone could have opened back to 2017 and saved.  Would you still get the "saved with a newer version" message then though when trying to open in 2018 if it was a 2017/16 file?

You shouldn't; because you wouldn't be able to go backwards. Below is a link to the only 2 reasons this would happen...

Thanks!  I will have to see if anyone has their demandload settings set differently.  Sounds like I am SOL on recovering the information in here though.

I think I got it figured out. The NearMap image is causing the issue. I also ran a -PURGE and purged the RegApps. There were 102,852. Congratulations, this is the largest number of RegApps I have EVER seen. LOL.

As you can see in the Image attached dialog box, the NearMap Aerial states that it is orphaned. Only bad thing is that I can't get rid of it.

The usual fix to this is to do a QSELECT>Entire Drawing>ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY>Select All. It returns 1 item selected (your NearMap aerial). Then, when you hit the Delete button, C3D closes.

FWIW you can get rid of the orphaned dwg with -xref

Command: -XREF
Enter an option [?/Bind/Detach/Path/pathType/Unload/Reload/Overlay/Attach] <Attach>: d
Enter xref name(s) to detach: *

However, the proxy entity still remains. As you suggested, select it using Qselect and then delete. In case you wish to see the object then use zoom command after using qselect.
