Save Block As causes freeze and error report – Civil 3D 2027

Hi everyone, I need help. Has anyone encountered an error when editing a block and using Save Block As to create a new name? The error keeps popping up. By the way, I’m using Civil 3D 2027.

I have never seen it occur before.  Are you able to share the file you are trying to edit?  Have you confirmed that the same issue does not occur in 2026?  With 2027 only having come out a week ago, there might not be a lot of people using it yet.  I know many companies dont update until after the first update is released.

Thanks for the response! I’ve already isolated the block into a new file and tested both Block Editor and Save Block As, but the same error still pops up.

Yes, this is in Civil 3D 2027—I was just trying the new version. I’m guessing there may still be some bugs that need fine-tuning since it was only released recently.

I'm getting the same error. Civil 2027. Save as in block editor gives "Attempted an unsupported operation" then a fatal error. I tested it on a new empty drawing using the UKIE template and got the same error every time. Tested in AutoCAD Map 2027 and got the same error. This needs to go to the development team

Thank you for following up.

At this point, I have not yet found a solution. To be honest, I ended up starting over from the beginning, but I'm still unsure of the correct approach and would greatly appreciate any guidance or assistance from the community.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful for the help.

Thank you,

My solution was to revert back to the 2026 release. It works there.

I see the error popping up only in Civil 3D 2027.

I also have Map 3D 2027 installed, but there is no problem when I want to Save As in Block Editor.

Seems to me that the problem only exists in version 2027 of Civil 3D, not in previous versions of Civil 3D and not in other verticals of AutoCAD 2027.

That's interesting. I get the error consistently in Map 3D too. I've asked my colleagues to test their machines to see if its only mine.

We've tested on another machine and are not getting the error. So I'm going to do a clean uninstall of all AutoCAD and re-install to see if that fixes it. That will have to happen in a couple of weeks because I'm booked out until then

I submitted a bug report on this, Autodesk was able to confirm it is an issue with Civil3D 2027.  Hopefully it there will be fixed in the next update.  As a workaround, you can select the block, right-click and select Copy Block Definition and Assign...  this will prompt you for the new name, then use BEDIT to make your changes.

Thank you for the update and for submitting the bug report. It's good to know that Autodesk was able to confirm the issue in Civil 3D 2027. I appreciate you sharing the workaround as well. I'll try using the "Copy Block Definition and Assign..." option followed by BEDIT for now and look forward to a fix in a future update.

Yes, this workaround is easier than the one I used. I used WBlock to save the block to a file, rename the file and insert this block.

Hello,

I have the same error on 4 x PCs with vanilla AutoCAD 2027. I've tested on 3 other PCs and the error does not exist, unfortunatly I've been unable to isolate differences.

BSAVEAS command while in Block Editor crashes AutoCAD 2027.

BTW there is also a bug in the profile manager in AutoCAD 2027, if you export a profile and import it, AutoCAD 2027 dies, you need to then reset to defaults.

We are getting this error on both of our 2027 machines.

Awesome that the ACAD 2027 update worked. Now let’s hope the Civil 3D update drops soon.
