we are having a discussion at my work place about xref-ing profiles for road and pipe network profiles into a viewport in production sheet, while labelling the plan view in production sheet view port. This process will be done by creating two profiles in the base data file, one to show in production sheet and another to work with. I am trying to lay out pros and cons of this method above vs just data refing and building profiles in sheet and how other people do it and if it has worked for them. Similar situation with grading file, all labels in base and xref into sheets. I personally find it hard to work with all the labels around, while they can be hidden, some projects are large and do not need to be larger
Cons:
-xref data take more storage
-if surface is needed in sheet for sections etc, a data reference will cause file to lag and other issues.
-losing all data shortcut benefits
-still have to build two profile
-still have to open two files as the plan view is labelled in sheet
-having to maintain base file super clean as it is production file now. No scratch work or notes.
-in our business deadlines are always deadly and if someone is trying to work on a certain design, no one can update a different system as the dref file is occupied.
Pros
-all labels in one file which makes updating a label easier
-maybe a little time saver but you still have to do it twice.
Apologize for long thread but please let me know which way have you tried and how is it working for you.
