Request for someone to do a Sheet set manager test

The test is simple. I'm asking for someone to copy a small SSM project that has sheet files with data shorts and annotation in the sheet files.

PLEASE ONLY DO THIS WITH A COPY

Once copied run the SSM command "Resave all sheets" You will find it by right clicking the top node of SSM. Then open one of the sheets and let me know if something looks wrong with the annotation.

Thanks

Hi Joe-

I ran it on my end without any issues I noticed...I didn't open every sheet though...I hope it helps.

Joe-

This is the easiest way to upgrade a project to your current version.  Beats opening each dwg individually and saving.  I do this when I need to update an old 2015 job to 2017.

I use the resave all sheets all the time to force updates, never any problems. I also copy whole projects sets to create record drawings, or when a larger project is broken in to small projects or phases. What problem are you seeing?

Thanks Mike

If you wouldn't mind please try it without opening the sheet; resave all from a blank drawing

Hey Joe-

We have seen this problem too. As you've guessed the “trigger” is the “Resave All Sheets” in SSM. I’ve been able to recreate the issue on numerous occasions, under/with different variables. I can open the drawings WITH all labels intact time and time again until the “Resave All Sheets” command is executed. It appears that if the affected drawing(s) is open at the time, the labels are not affected, but unopen drawings lose their labels every time. I’m unsure why it’s happening on some drawings and not others, even though I’ve checked numerous variables. This remains a mystery. But, without a doubt, running the command through the Sheet Set Manager triggers the loss of labels.

The command seems as a nice convenience to update all drawings in the sheet set, but publish is updating drawings as it “opens” them for printing anyway.

Based on discussions with my reseller tech support, and what I’ve been able to recreate – the command is none-essential, irrelevant, and now, basically a land mine waiting for activation. Nobody knows why or how to deal with bug to date, so it’s probably a good idea to avoid using this command at all times.

Hope this all helps!

Hi Mike

I guess my screencast jogged your memory .

I disagree with the irrelevance of the command. As I stated earlier, many times if I add layouts to the SS and try to publish SSM does not recognize the layout until save all is performed.

Regardless of the apparent efficacy of the command the developers should fix it and issue a patch.

Thanks for all the help

So what are yall doing that messes it up? Last week, in a road project, I made a single change to a custom SSM field value and plotted the sheet set. The change didn't update so I used the save all and reprinted the set, the value updated and I had no issues with any labels.

I just copied that project to my C: drive and ran resave all sheets from SSM and don't see any issues in the drawings I checked (all with plan and profile).

Intersting that I did see a bunch of "** undefined shape ###" in the blank drawing during the process, something I have never seen before.

Yes your screencast helped!  Sorry no offense to you regarding the command's relevance...I guess that was harsh.  However, I'm bitter because me and others in my organization have been burned before accidentally using it.

I think it would be good to have it too, if it worked.  Problem is, if you use it there really is no going back and you have a ton of rework to fix the ramifications, so my only point was to avoid it.

Hello Charles

are you certain the drefs and labels are in the sheet file and not in an xref? it only effects labels on drefs that are in the sheet file.

Hey Joe-

Based on all the positive feedback using the "Re-Save all Sheets" feature, I tested again.  Everything worked with no deleted labels.  Now I'm really confused....

I don't xref C3D files so I am 100% sure the labels are on drefed data in the files saved and opened.

That is kind of messing with my mind. If its not a bug and something local what could it be?

Had to make minor changes, affecting SSM fields, to the project I tested last week. Resaved all (copying a back up to another network drive, having been made paranoid by a certain @Joe-Bouza, who shall remain nameless) and plotted with no missing annotations/labels. It has to be related to your other issues Joe.

Joe, I first reported the bug of C3D labels disappearing when a drawing is saved from outside the drawing editor years ago...C3D 2010 perhaps? This includes the SSM Resave All sheets and custom programming tools which make edits in the background then saves the dwg. As long as the dwg is open in the editor, no problem saving it. For this reason, I NEVER use the Save All Sheets.

Thanks Jeff. I’m sold and off the RSAS. I’m a little bothered that not all users like @Anonymous aren’t seeing the effect. Some are some are not
