Rectangle Offset Linework Code Set

Hello all,

I'm trying to get my company into the 21st century and start using linework codes when doing fieldwork. To ease them into this process I'm trying to find a way to simplify the codes needed to be used in the field. We're currently about to start a large job surveying all the culverts in my city. I was wondering if it's possible to offset the RECT linework code command so the points act as a centerline rather than edge corners, i.e. CULV100 RECT.3 would draw a rectangle offset .15 to each side of the point.

 

I've also run into the issue where the RECT command as a whole doesn't want to work. Every time I import the survey data the PANORAMA spits out a "Figure x at point y - Rectangle command failed." with no other information to go off of how or why it failed in the first place.

 

Any and all help is greatly apprechiated.

In your second test point there is a space between CULV and 100 that is throwing off the linework I think.

As for using two shots on c/l to create the culvert I don't think the RECT command can do that.  You could create both lines using offset codes but then you'd have to go back and connect the ends to create a closed figure.

The codes should be CULV100 B, CULV100 RECT.15 to get it to draw. don't think you can get it to draw the pipe itself. A new linework codeset "PIPE" would be nice.

That fixed the RECT not working! Good eye.

 

Yeah, that's what I was trying to avoid. I was hoping for a shorter code to use than H-.15 H.15. Some of the guys that have been doing this since it was a calculator and a transit aren't too open to change lol.

Yeah, a PIPE code would be fantastic. We have almost 400 culverts to shoot, so much line work and spreadsheets. I was hoping to shave some of the overhead work with a code set but oh well. Can only do what Autodesk lets us do right now!

Just thinking out loud with so many pipes to do. I think I would create figure codes for varied size/material that would get pushed to a layer, explode the resulting figures to featurelines and convert them to pipes by object, this way I could create a label style to be applied to the pipes. At the same time this might become easier to tabulate as well. Just a thought I have not tried this and it might require some testing.
