QTO - does it actually work??

I haven't used QTO for some years as I was never totally confident it reported the correct things so tried it again in 2024 and still unconvinced.

The 3 polylines have had a pay item added and yet the QTO report shows 8 items with the 2nd, 5th and final lines being the correct ones

Anyone got any ideas - I'm think of using property sets or simply Data Extraction as these work with no issues

I think QTO works very well for pipe networks when your pay items are assigned to the parts list.  QTO also works well for corridors.  Everything else, not so much.  I think its more of a headache than necessary.  Project Explorer also works great for counting blocks.

...none of which I'm trying to do a QTO for - just simple AutoCAD polylines.

I just used Property Set data and it worked with no issues - reported via a Power Query in Excel

Sad part QTO has been out for 15 years and not one major improvement.  Not worth the time to setup and no way of verifying the results if you do.  Faster and more accurate to just do it manually. Sad!

Property set data is better and more reliable than QTO.

Certainly I have more confidence in the result if I do it manually or with Property Set data

Can you explain how you did this or give a link to instructions? Working on quantity takeoffs for a cost estimate now. Also, is there a way to get the start and end stations for something you are getting the area or volume of? Right now I'm just making polylines from the start and end and using that for alignment stations.

I have had this happen and have the same level of confidence. And some of the can be traced back to me/ users.

By chance, and this has happened to me, if you hove the polyline does it show more than one application of the QTO?

Although your listing looks like different objects all together
