Publishing own made assembly in IPE keeps on failing

Hi there,

I'm working for a (waste) water company. And thanks to the new feature "Autodesk ArcGIS Connector" We have finnaly a perfect proces of maintaining our digital Assets. At least, it is still a dream .. but we hope that this will soon become reality.

Now the problem:
After many bugs and workaround I've finnaly made an composed assembly of my own made structures that's looking good in Infrastructure Part editor.

But when I want to publish this Assembly, I get the following error:

Publishing assemblies in Infrastructure Part Editor giving error message:
Converting: RIOOLPUT_V0_METRIC :Fail

—Error: Missing required template 71353b33-2299-40cf-993b-0e33fed61a9a

Note: 71353b33-2299-40cf-993b-0e33fed61a9a = the ID of my new made assembly.

Whats do I do wrong? How can I solve this problem?

Also I get this warning message before publishing:

Generic Drainage Catalog - Metric
Errors
Catalog contains no errors.
Warnings
Rioolput v0
Version is empty
Notes
Catalog contains no notes

Best regards,

Jasper Dijkman

Hi @JasperD!,

Thank you very much for the detailed description and for recording this video. I have tested this workflow using your attached IPT files and could recreate the same error notification.

I have also tested that it could be recreated on the structures created from the scratch in the Inventor 2021. I consider this to be a defect and logged it for the development team further investigation.

I have noticed that in the public documents on my system I have "Kameleon" and "Infrastructure Parts Editor 2021" folders, both containing shapes and templates for structures and assemblies. Replacing the older one ("Kameleon") with the other one allowed me to publish the custom made assemblies to Civil 3D 2021.

I find it might be connected to this behaviour, and I  have added it to the issue documentation.

Please, try following the steps and let me know if that solution works for you:

  1. Open the folder location C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk\
  2. Rename the folder "Kameleon" to "Kameleon_backup".
  3. Copy the folder "Infrastructure Parts Editor 2021" and save it as "Kameleon".
  4. Open Infrastructure Parts Editor from Civil 3D and publish the assembly.

Alternatively, there is an option to add custom sizes to existing structures and then publish the assembly composed of them.

Please, let me know if that helps.

Regards,

Jakub

Hi Jakub,

Thank you for your time to investigate this problem. I followed your steps but unfortunately it didn't work.

However, I have discovered a number of points.

1. Main problem

I've tried to delete all my Drainage Structure Catalogs, then I deleted all items in C:\Users\***\Documents\Autodesk.

After that I reopened the IPE 2021 and opened a standard Drainage Structure "Generic Drainage Catalog - Metric".

I go to a Surface Structure and surprisingly, I still see my structures in the library.

not removable structuresnot removable structures

I think this is causing the publish problem. Because the error message says the following:
"—Error: Missing required template 71353b33-2299-40cf-993b-0e33fed61a9a"

It makes sense that the template is missing because I deleted it.

When I add my structure again I get the following message:

Overwrite IPT ShapeOverwrite IPT Shape

I Choose to overwrite the IPT Shape. But when I publish my catalog I still get the same error:

"—Error: Missing required template 71353b33-2299-40cf-993b-0e33fed61a9a"

My question is: How Can I delete all the structures in the IPE2021?

2. Publishing is successful on other computer but the structure is not visible in civil 3D

On another computer I could successfully published my own made Assembly. 🎉🎉🎉

But when I wanted to use the Assembly in Civil 3D as Structure, it was invisible 😞

Structures.PNG

I've tried to following solution:

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/civil-3d/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Pipe-...

But did not work for me.

How can I make my own made assembly visible in Civil 3D? And see all the Part properties of the Structure?

I managed to make the structure visible in Civil 3D. The problem was in the "Underground structure" where I did not keep the "baseTh" within the "USHeight".

Hi @JasperD!

Thank you for your cooperation and fruitful comments!

Referring to your previous post:

  • ad 1. I have tried to reproduce your steps of deleting the folder "Infrastructure Parts Editor 2021" from location "C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Autodesk". When I opened IPE 2021 and tried to open "Generic Drainage Catalog - Metric", it was rebuilt and recovered as default without any custom structures.
Could you tell me if I got it right?
  • ad 2. I see that you managed to find the factor that was stopping displaying the structures in Civil 3D. Can you tell me if you can now publish the assembly to Civil 3D 2021 correctly on your computer?

While my testing I could reproduce this problem also with using a structures made from empty IPT Inventor files.
What I noticed, that IPE was searching this "Kameleon" folder for the structure template. After applying this workaround from my previous post, which copied new content to this path, the assembly could be then published.  One similarity between our workflow, that may be connected, is that I also have reinstalled IPE 2021.

I will add your information to the issue description for the development to investigate.

Let me know if it works for you now or if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Jakub

Hi @jakub.siwiec ,

I've made a screencast to explain my issue in IPE. briefly I mean the following:

Sometimes my imported parts in IPE gives errors when publishing (see message 1 of this topic).

We now know that the imported part is not the problem.

To solve this problem, the part must no longer be found in the IPE.

In the screencast you will see that the part is still in the IPE library, even when you delete all catalog store location.

My problem is solved when I can delete my imported parts from the library from IPE.

On my other computer I now managed to publish a catalog and use it in civil 3D 2021.

But also there I got problems with parts in the IPE that got corrupt and cannot be removed from the IPE library anymore.

Hi @JasperD!,

Thank you for the screencast you recorded.

I have consulted your question about deleting the shape template that is displayed when creating a new structure. I have found that they are stored i:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Infrastructure Parts Editor 2021\Shape Templates

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Kameleon\Shape Templates

On my computer, after reinstalling IPE it is "Infrastructure Parts Editor 2021" folder.

To delete the shape template:

  1. Check its name in IPE.
  2. Open folder C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Infrastructure Parts Editor 2021\Shape Templates
  3. Open the folder that name is 2 first characters of the shape template.
  4. Identify the correct folder by comparing the rest of the string.
  5. Close IPE and reopen it.

This shape template should not be seen after trying to create a new structure anymore. If not, try the same procedure in "Kameleon" folder.

I have recorded you a short screencast: https://autode.sk/2Tqyazy

If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to let me know.

Jakub

I just had a similar problem. I have both, the "old" version of IPE (kameleon) and the "new" (2021).

Somehow during publishing IPE tries to get the templates from the kameleon repository, but it creates them in the 2021 repository. I had to manually copy the templates from 2021 to kameleon to get it working.

@JasperD! Good morning, my name is Renzo and these past few days I've been working on the same kind of tasks as you in the past—creating custom parts for use in Civil 3D. Your video was really helpful, by the way! I even named a few of my test models “Jasper Model” during the process.

Everything seems to be working reasonably well, and I’ve even had to manually tweak some of the XML files I created to bypass fixed parameters from Civil 3D.

However, I do have two questions that you might have some insight on:

  1. My client uses the default “US Imperial Structure Catalog” that appears in Civil 3D. Since it doesn't come with an .icbt file, it can't be opened directly in IPE. Do you know if there's a way to generate the .icbt automatically from that default catalog?

  2. In the Assembly tab of IPE, I can't seem to assign any cover or grate. In Inventor, I’ve added the CoverOrGratePort and used the Assign Cover/Grate button to tag the same face. But still, nothing shows up as an available part when I try to assemble. Do you know what could be causing this? (I’ve also made sure that all the sizes match and are within compatible dimensions)

Any ideas or things I could try would be much appreciated!

Regards,
