PROJECT EXPLORER FOR VOLUME SURFACE REPORT

I am trying to create a volume surface report using Project Explorer. Through an Object Sets, I have assigned an action to generate the report as .pdf

In the PE layout options I set the columns I need to display on my report. However when I see the report the PE main window, I don't see the summary for my report, let alone when I run the Object Set action, I create a pdf but not with the information I assigned on the layout options.

I've attached screenshots of what I need

The second screenshot shows what I intend to display on PE main window and create a report via Object set.

Has anyone tried this?

thank you

There is an additional step that you need to take to include a volume surface summary in the report. You'll find the relevant option in the Project Explorer Report Style definition.

Try these steps:

  1. Firstly, open the Edit Object Set dialog, and ensure that the Use Specific Report Style option is enabled. Then click the adjacent Edit Style button to open the Report Options dialog.
  2. In the Report Options dialog, select the Report Footer tab, then ensure that the Add Volume Surface Cut/Fill Summary to Report Footer option is checked/ticked/selected. See attached screenshot.
  3. Next, save the report style, and return to the Project Explorer window.
  4. Back in the Object Sets list, you should also ensure that the Use Sub-Object Tables option is de-selected. This will prevent the individual triangles from being included in the report. You definitely won't need this for a volume table.
  5. Finally, re-run the Object Set action. This should give you the result you need.

Now that almost a year has passed and users have become more familiar with it. Does anyone know of a way to get the report to display Cubic Yards instead of Cubic Feet?

Well I found a workaround to get the results I was looking for. If you change the Cut/Fill Factor to 0.03703704 it will show the volumes in CY in the generated table/report. But now the quantities in the Volume Dashboard are wrong. There has got to be a better way to do this?

Reporting volumes in Cubic Yards is not yet supported in Project Explorer, but we do have it logged in our product road map.

For reference, The relevant case id is CIVIL-36425.

@Bruce-Harfield I'm not seeing the Add Volume Surface Cut/Fill Summary to Report Footer option on mine?

@neilyj666 this workflow has changed in recent versions of Project Explorer as a result of the implementation of totals row support, which works for all object types instead of being specific to volume surfaces. The introduction of totals row support allows you to achieve the same result, so the previous volume summary support was retired.

The new procedure would be:

  1. Create an Object Set and assign your action to generate an AutoCAD table or report.
  2. Add one or more volume surfaces to the Object Set.
  3. In the Object Sets list, ensure that the Use Sub-Object Tables option is de-selected for each volume surface in the Object Set. This will ensure that just the base object properties for the surfaces is reported, and not the triangle or cell details in the sub-object table.
  4. Double-click the Object Set to open the Edit Object Set dialog. In that dialog, select the Use Specific Layout Style radio button then press Edit Style
  5. In the Layout Options dialog, select the surfaces tab and ensure Set Column Layout for Surfaces is selected from the dropdown list in that tab.
  6. Note the Show Totals Cell option for certain parameters in the surface data columns list. Set this to "yes" for each value that you would like to be included in the totals row at the foot of each table in the report, for example the fill/cut colume columns.   Save the Layout Style, give it a name and return to the Project Explorer window.
  7. Run the Object Set action. This should now give you a table containing the list of volume surfaces with the summary of values included in the totals row at the bottom of the table. Optionally, you can return to the Edit Object Set dialog and modify the style of the totals row by setting up an appropriate report or table style.

So over 2 years later and still appears there is no way to report Cubic Yards! Unless I'm missing something 😜
