To all,
I have a drawing I am labeling profile tangents in and noticed the only option available to move/adjust where the label resides is through dragged state. I thought civil 3d had a slider option along the tangent as well.
Does civil 3d have the ability to have a slider for the tangent grade label in profile view? If so, instructions on how to get that back in my style would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.

I am sure the problem is in your style setting for the tangent grade label. In the style editor, check the anchor setting for the label. Make sure it is set to Label Location vs. mid point or some other specific location. The label should then slide along the line when you move the diamond grip.

I forgot, profile tangent grade labels can't do that. They can only anchor to a fixed point. That has been a problem all along. It would be nice to be able to slide a label close to the edge of a viewport when the VPI is on another sheet. Never found good workaround. You can make a style that puts the label at the start and ends of the tangent but then they get bunched up on short tangents.

I never tried AS Composed with a profile label. Will give it a look. Generally I don't use As Composed because the leaders don't work right in dragged state.

So I happened to be in a file where I could test the As Composed option Jeff. I don't see any behavior that looks different from the Stacked option. The label does not "slide" along the tangent. I can turn off the leader and move it anywhere but that works with the same with Stacked as well. Am I missing something?

No, it doesn't slide, but you can move the label as needed while maintaining the label's alignment with the slope of the profile. Turning off the leader in drag state removes any issues of it not showing up right.

Good point. I hadn't thought of that when I was testing.
While we are on the subject, is there a way to label a profile tangent then the label point is not in the viewport? I suppose you could make a style that labels the ends in the view but that would lead to bunching in short tangents per my previous comment.

Either I don't understand your workaround or you know something I don't about labeling profile tangents. When applying tangent labels you have to assign a style which gets applied to all the tangents. Typically the tangents don't get a label if the label anchor is set to middle and the mid point is beyond the extents of a profile view. How do you handle that? I've tried creating styles with the anchor points set to the ends of the tangents in the view but they end up conflicting when the VPI's are close together.

When they end up conflicting, then drag them to where they don't. I do wish they had included the option for Middle of Tangent in View which would make this simpler.

I was really hoping you had a way to deal with that☹️. I wish there were a tangent segment label we could apply, just like for alignment segments. I really don't want 2 or 3 labels on a short tangent. You can individually select and delete the unwanted labels but they come back if you have to make changes to the style or settings.

Jeff, I think this can be done. Add a line to the label style and use the "Anchor Tangent Start In View" and "Anchor Tangent End In View" for its end points. Set its visibility to False. Anchor to the text in the label to the middle of this line.

Excellent. It works. You get a label on every tangent in the view. This is going into our template.
One big Kudo for you Mark.

Awesome! Thanks for your solution Mark!

To all,
Apologies for the lack of response in the thread. Thanks to those for participating in the discussion, its greatly appreciated. I don't know if there is an actual solution here, but certainly a couple of work around's that will get me by. Kudos to all @Jeff_M, @Neilw_05, @MMcCall402!
