Pressure Network fitting labels

Has anyone figured out how to have a pressure network fitting labels attach to the fitting without some invisible box?

(see attached pic)

Civil 3d draws an imaginary square box around the part and the leader is stopping at that limit.

 

I'm not seeing any way to change this behavior, as the Fitting label style uses Autocad arrowheads & not markers.

 

C3D 2018.1
C3D 2016 SP4
