It's a 3d polyline because it has varying elevations. Under the grading menu
you'll find a Polyline Utilities menu that includes a command to convert a
3d polyline to a 2d polyline. You may also want to set the polyline
elevation to zero after you've done that - if that's what you're after.
There's also a feature line command to Fit Curves that will replace
tesellated line segments with arcs. You'll find many of the feature line
editing cmds also work with polylines.
If you want to keep the varying elevations on the polyline, you need to
leave it as a 3d polyline. In that case, offset the feature line first
before exploding.

When I try to create a polyline from a corridor feature line, it works, but
the polyline is some different kind. I can't offset it, and it was strange
properties. When I list it, it says "POLYLINE" instead of "LWPOLYLINE"
like usual. Anyone know why?
