Maybe it is a civil 3D cogo point and not an autocad point?  If so select the point and look at the properties palette, if it's a cogo point change the Style in the Information section. The Basic style that comes with civil 3D is an x. You can also edit and create your own style.

Did you REGEN after making the change to PDMODE?

Okay, in 2018, regardless of the setting of REGENAUTO, changing PDMODE causes a REGEN. So nevermind....

If you want to change the AutoCAD point style, it's PDTYPE, not PDMODE.

Your being new to the program, I recommend you find some training classes or training manuals to learn C3D basics. The learning curve is a huge headache otherwise. This forum can't teach you from scratch how to use the program.

What you want is possible. A quick run down of what to do for the point you are wanting. You will need the manual or classes to understand the some of the terms used or the intermediate steps required that I don't list.

Under the points menu you can create COGO points directly or convert them from ACAD points. Then you need to find, create or edit some point styles to display the points and label them.
