And will it be the full featured Pipeworks we've been wishing for? Ties to Hydrology and Watersheds would be nice, especially for the dynamic surfaces we can modify on the fly. -- Don Reichle Hacker Engineering, Inc. Scratch that first reply. There's no publicly discussed release date for a C3D piping module. It won't be in this release. -- James Wedding, P.E. IT Manager Jones & Boyd, Inc. Dallas, TX XP/2 on P4-3.4/1G LDT2005+C3D http://au.autodesk.com Sign up now for AU2004!

Hi - While there is no Pipe capabilities in Civil 3D 2005, it's certainly one of our highest priorities. For now, you'll want to move your data back and forth between Civil 3D and LDT/Civil Design. Any requirements/information that you have on Pipes (layout, drafting, analysis, hydrology, hydaulics) would be appreciated. Feel free to EMAIL me directly. One thing that I'm very interested in is the analysis part of the puzzle. What analysis apps do you currently use (commercial products, your own calculators, Civil Design, etc). Hi Dave, I thought I would pipe in on this one (pun intended). In our office here, we use Haestad Methods StormCAD to calculate flows in the pipes and to the inlets. It's a pretty nice (if not expensive) program. One of the nice things about it is it allows for transferring data back and forth between LDT and StormCAD. Things I think would be extremely useful (at least in our part of the world) would be rational method calculations that would tie directly to surface watershed boundaries and properties (i.e. area and time of concentration and perhaps even imperviousness). I would love to see the ability to draw a line, say across a street section, and have the program calculate the peak flow across it and display the contributing area(I say a line because often a point has no contributory area). This would be ideal for calculating inlet sizing and roadway inundation. Taking it a step further, have the watershed area attached to an inlet and then use that area to size/analyze the pipe system. I know other parts of the world use other methods such as the tr-20 and the tr-55 but the ideas would be the same for these other systems. What would be even greater would be to incorporate the Colorado Urban Hydrograph Procedure and UDSWM but, I could live without those included. Well put, Brian (You punny guy). You fleshed out nicely what I scratched the surface of. I'll second everything, except for the regional stuff. Hi Don, Actually, I'm not sure what the acronym stands for but it is, in essence, a modified version of the runoff block of the EPA's SWMM model (Environmental Protection Agency - Storm Water Management Model). It's been modified for the types of storms we get here along the Front Range of the Rockies. In fact, Fort Collins (a city about 1.5 hours North of Denver) has actually modified this model - so I guess it's a modified version of the modified version of the... oh bother. Brian

How about Urban Drainage Storm Water Management Model. I'd like to suggest an interface with and buliding upon the various elements within USDA Urban Hydrology for Small Watersheds, TR-55. In most of the eastern U.S., TR-55 is the standard by which watershed runoff modeling is based.

Hello Dave,

Are there any plans for an interface with Haestad's (Bentley's) StormCAD? Or do you know of development plans for a storm design solution within Civil3D that will match StormCAD? With C3D pipes alone, I have been forced to a major workaround to get StormCAD information into C3D. C3D really needs a storm calculation solution.

Thanks,

Mike
