Pay Item Database

I have the GDOT pay item database. Does anyone know how to get that file into C3D. I have so far been unable to find anyway to C3D to read it. I did try exporting as a .xml file but that didn't work

The QTO manager uses a csv file. When setting up our database I imported the file to excel, formatted and organized it and exported/saved as a csv. Then you need (not required, but really needed for usability) category file in xml. Look at one of the sample category files that shipped/downloaded with  C3D for the format. Good luck, its a lot of work to get set up, but worth it long term.

The QTO help & tutorials are very incomplete.  What you need to know is, as cwr posted above, your Excel .xls or .xlsx file has to be saved to .csv (comma, space, value) format.  And also, this is important: You now must CLOSE the .csv file before C3D will read it.  The trial-and-error process of setting up the .csv file is extra annoying because of this feature.  

The .csv file must be organized so that the first three columns are, in order: QTO Item number, Description, Unit of Measure.  There may be additional columns beyond those three, and they will be ignored by C3D.  But the first three must contain those items, in that order.  

The .xml file (the categorization file) is optional, but for a very long table of items it will help by allowing the table to expand and collapse in the QTO item viewing pane.  Creating the .xml is very tricky, as any syntax error will result in the file not being read at all.  There are free xml editors, I use 'XML Notepad 2007'.

The file is an Access Database (.mdb) and it has sections and sub-sections and so far I've only been able to get the sections to export. I'm beginning to think that it can't be done, so I'm probably going to give up on it for now till I have more time. Thanks for taking time to respond

I don't believe you can import Pay Item as MDB file. You need to use XML or CSV (comma delimited) file and then in QTO Manager you will be able to import it. Have not tried it but I think you may be able to export CSV (comma delimited) file from Access. It's worth a shot if you can't get teh XML or CSV files.
