Parking Lot Design / Grading Workflow

How should I handle this parking lot design? Should I run four different Center line alignments (shown as red, blue, yellow lines) then just build assembly for a full road section and a separate assembly curbs for the islands? How should I handle the grading, through grading objects?

Hi @meel1986!

I would suggest using the Vehicle Tracking extension for Civil 3D, where you can create parking lots and also create later grading from them automatically.

Give it try and let me know if it works for you!

I'd use feature lines and gradings. Corridors for parking lots is crazy to me.

Corridors can whip out those curb islands very quickly and you can use grading infill for the rest of the lot.

What would you suggest the workflow to be? Should I run corridor along the curb lines (which are utilized as alignments along ETW) then grade inside? I have drainage in the middle of the roads, can I invert the road CL assembly and match the curb lines to the ETW? How should I handle the little island if I run the full road section and target the curb line (shown in the attached picture)?

Hi @meel1986,

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for posting. I agree with @EBDBC3D@tcorey and @m_kingdon, you can grade parking lot using a combination of feature lines, corridors, and grading objects. @m_kingdon, had provided detailed step by step on this workflow as shown. Do check it out.

I will go ahead and mark Mike's post as a possible answer. This won't prevent other folks from commenting on this question though, in the event other ideas come up!

Personally, I like using the alignment/profiles and offset alignment/profiles to generate a really simple corridor representing asphalt surface and then using that simple surface as a reference to generate the curb lines.  All curb lines are then just modeled as 2 feature lines, one at bottom of curb and top of curb which have automatic reference elevations from the base surface.  Then all feature lines (and therefore curb lines) adjust automatically by making edits to the corridor base surface.
