Opinion - Feet or US Survey Feet for Vertical Datum references

There is a debate in my firm about noting the units for vertical datums, e.g., NAVD88.  Some want to continue using the term "foot", while others want to start noting the vertical units as "US Survey Foot". 

The FEMA and NGS sites are a bit vague on the matter.  I am curious what other firms and folks are doing.

We state all vertical references to the DATUM, ie NAVD '88. And don't concern ourselves with the units. As I see it if we are in U.S. Survey Feet (NAD83F.......) then that is the unit for the Datum by default, otherwise your in Meters and everything would then be in Meters.

Horizontal datum is expressed in U.S. Survey Feet, Vertical datum is expressed in Feet.

A foot is a foot and it will always be a foot.
