obtain point elevations from a TIN

is there a way? if i have a points group that i created by importing points in PNE format, is there any way that i can assign elevations to those points by extracting elevations from an underlying TIN?

select the point group.   right click edit points.  select all the points in the panarama right click sample elevations from surface.

nice, never knew it was there, i learn something new every day here. alright, here's an extension. how about the points picking up the surface slope?

I'm not sure why you'd want that.   I don't think it's possible to extract slope info to a c3d point object.   There is however a surface label for slope that will allow you to pick 1 or 2 points.

i have a cogo points group, and a surface on which i did the slope analysis. they are not related to each other in any way (these points are not in the surf definition). now, i basically need to strike a connection between the two. if i create the 1-point slope labels right on the node of my cogo points, is there any way to extract a table, maybe with just the northing-easting of that 1-point slope label and actual slope label? if i can do that, then i can join the two in excel.

for slope analysis, i'd probably use the built in surface style for slope analysis.

 

If you must use the specific points you already have, then i'd probably place a 1 pt surface label on each one which would tell me the slope at each point.   then i'd probably edit the point description or some other point data field to indicate the slope.   then the points could be exported to a text file and imported to a spreadsheet.

 

not easy fast or dynamic.  hopefully someone has a better suggestion.

that's what i used, i have the surface set up in 2-D slope banding. but the slope for the banding is in ranges, i need the point slope. also, i cannot think of a way to even extract information from those slope banding solids into the cogo points.

not sure i understand. i think you are suggesting setting up 1-point slope labels on the nodes of all the cogo points, then manually edit the cogo pts description and hand type the slopes in? i would like not to go that route, i have >7000 cogo points.

 

you know (plz dont take it the wrong way, i am not comparing capabilities of softwares here), arcmap has a tool that extracts raster values and joins to the attribute table of an overlaying points layer. is there anything similar in Civil 3D?
