Object name change different drawing

I'm getting an object name change reference each time I open the same drawing. Problem is this drawing keeps referencing a surface path or name of a completely different drawing. I have checked paths in the data reference manager and checked all my xrefs and can't solve this one.

Can you paste any screenshots of the the message when opening the file and/or of the data shortcuts manager showing how the data shortcuts are linked?

Attached is both the Object Name Change manage and the DS manager. I have no idea how to get rid of these surface references outside of this project and path. This drawing is looking for EG surfaces in project folder 21244 while the current drawing is in project folder 22A211.

A couple things you could try..........

• It looks like the root drawing where the EG surface resides in is FG.dwg?  If so, close all drawings and open that one up
  • Down at the bottom of the Prospector in the Data Shortcuts, remove the data shortcut for the EG Surface
  • Go to File Explorer and verify in the Data Shortcuts folder that the surface definition is not there
  • In the drawing, audit the file and correct any errors.
  • In the drawing, re-create the data shortcut
• Close the FG.dwg and open the drawing that is giving you the Object Name Change message
  • Re-link the data shortcut in the Data Shortcuts Manager

I have cleansed this dwg to it's max. I can't seem to get rid/find where it's searching the other 21244 project folder for EG references. For now, it's only three references so I'll have to OK them each time after a sync.

You could also try deleting the surface from your 2nd drawing and re-referencing it.  Only downfall to that is you lose any profiles that reference that EG surface.

Deleting EG and FG is out for now. I'll try a couple things AFTER this set gets submitted for review. If no fix I'll post

Of course, this happens at deadline time, no better timing.  Yeah, let me know, I am interested in fixing this.

A purge took care of it. I was looking for this from last year. It appears these rogue surfaces are somehow attached to blocks. The easiest way is to select a surface spot label and in the Properties>General>Surface drop down you can see the referenced surfaces that may not belong in the project.

how is it that CAD is purging surfaces?  Purge only works on vanilla AutoCAD objects doesn't it?

It does not delete the surface per say but the block that the surface is somehow part of. Once the block is deleted/purged the surface goes with it.
