Object Layers | Obey CLAYER OOTB?

I want values other than the "." (use current) value to override the current layer (CLAYER), just like the HPLAYER sysvar, as example.

Cheers

Hi Blackbox,

Are you saying that you want to use a non-existing layer for CLAYER (like you can for hatches & dimensions HPLAYER, DIMLAYER)?

If so, can you give some more context?  Would it be used in scripting?  You could use -LAYER Make to create the layer and set it current.  If that doesn't solve your issue, can you provide more details?

Thanks,

Karen

Hi @KarenMason -

So nice to see you outside of Beta!

No, I'm specifically talking about Civil 3D's Object Layers, which are saved within the drawing (and not part of the new External Style references?!), via Toolspace, Settings tab, right click the drawing, Object Layers tab.

The myriad Object Layer settings, for each-and-every-single C3D Object, must currently be specified one-at-a-time... There is no means by which to select multiple, and assign a single layer simultaneously (as is possible when setting a Linetype in Layer Manager, as example), nor do these myriad settings support CLAYER at all.  Instead, we have to create all required Layers in advance, so-to-speak, and assign them individually for each possible drawing type, which is an incredible PITA.

Cheers

Hi Blackbox,

Thanks.  Oh... somehow I ended up in the Civil 3D forum, and didn't realize it.  Now I understand that your CLAYER request is related to Civil 3D.   I'll make sure that someone on the Civil 3D team hears about your request.
