Nothing shows up when importing Ecw files?

Hi,

I am trying to import an Ecw file 10x10 km (546 mb) into C3D 2017, Autocad SP1, I have set a coordinate system for the drawing and the same when importing the raster file.

But nothing shows up...? Any ideas why?

Are you using MAPIINSERT? Are you getting a border frame with nothing inside? Can you post a link to your ECW file?

Could be you need to have raster design to work with those? Not sure as i have it for ages at work..

thank you for getting back. Well I have tried both MAPIINSERT and the raster area in Maptaskpane. with no luck.

Actually nothing shows up, borders either.

...I dont think raster design would have any implications on this, it should be a job for Civil 3D strictly?

I tried both MAPCONNECT AND MAPIINSERT in both 2016 and 2017 versions. Nothing, not even a frame. In C3D 2017, with MAPIINSERT I get "10km_6320_550_2016.ecw was not found or is not valid". In C3D 2016, with MAPCONNECT I get a "Warning" that says, "Failed to get bands data". I don't know what that means.

IrfanView opens that ECW file easily:

I also can open the ECW in Lizardtech's GeoViewer, which says that the Map Projection is "Native (ETRS89 / UTM zone 32N)":

Hi Dave,

thank you for your efforts on this. It makes it quite strange the Civil3D does recognizes anything.

Unfortunately I am bound to use Civil, due to my use of Vehicle Tracking. So I guess I would have to take on a support case on the subject.

This definitely calls for a support case. C3D should be able to use that ECW file, since two free programs, IrfanView and GeoViewer, can open it easily.

Your other option is to convert the ECW format to perhaps a GeoTiff, and see if that works. I think GeoViewer can convert the ECW to a MrSID. But as for specific steps, I don't know.

The free QGIS has a Raster Clipper Tool that will take a piece of the photo and make a new, smaller file. That may be a way to try.

Usually support cases are handled through your reseller. But if your reseller is not responsive, and you have a Maintenance Plan, then Autodesk has Phone Support and Web Support.

It is still an issue with Autodesk Civil 3D 2018.

BING MAP connection is not updated and we must use the ECW file so show the arieal image.

I use the Mapwspace task pane to connect to ecw files almost daily, today I received a file that did not import.

I don't have the solution and I think the problem for me is the image has more than 3 bands possibly with a transparency band. 

this is data from a remote piloted aerial system and Pix 4d. This is probably the most common form of imagery capture we are receiving at the moment from survey contractors.

I remember there was previously a hotfix that was released for issues with ecw files for 2017. Do you have that installed? It may now have been incorporated into the updates. Is your 2017 fully up to date with all fixes and updates? Does your Autodesk Desktop App indicate anything available for download for 2017 such as hotfix/updates etc. (not extensions)?
