North Arrow

Hi,

I have my north arrow block copied from a different .dwg to my paperspace, and now need to get it point at tge right direction.

I did some search and watched a couple of videos, and I think some tools and tab( layout setting) is missed from my Civil 3D 2018: i don't have any north arrow tools.

Can you please walk me through the north arrow concept, and how to make it point at the right direction( without changing the position of my file in the paperspace).

Highly appreciated!

When in paper space there should be a ribbon selection for Layout Tools.  On that ribbon there is a section for Layout Elements with a north arrow tool.

That being said, I don't know if they're safe to use.  I've had issues with them and read many posts with others having issues.

Place the north arrow in model space with a rotation of zero. It its location works for the plan/viewport then you're done. If you need it outside the viewport then go to paperspace, go into the viewport and run CHSPACE to pull the north arrow through the viewport and into paperspace. Then move it to where you need it to be.

If you cant find your layout elements try this. Go to a layout tab, it should default you to the layout tools ribbon panel. In the ribbon right click and go to the following and make sure the layout elements is checked:

Layout Elements.JPG

If this opens then you can use the north arrow from there that allows you to select a viewport.

If you create your sheets from plan production templates then you could just add the north arrow block to those templates and it will rotate automatically when you create your sheets.

You can use a lisp routine like the one HERE to rotate a north arrow block to match the viewport.

You can use an out-of-the-box North arrow, go to Layout Tools tab>Layout Elements panel>North Arrow icon. The OOT north arrows are 'linked' to the viewport  orientation, not the UCS.

To see how it works, click >>HERE<< to watch a video.

Did you try my tip above to get to the tools? If you did and when you go to the layout tab there is no layout tool tab. Right click in the ribbon and go to show tabs and see if it is checked. If not you will need to go into your CUI and see if it’s marked as show.

It May be beneficial for you to reset your AutoCAD to default. You might be missing a partial CUI or have corrupt profile.

when you eventually find the tab be for warned that they (and the dynamic scale bars) have a checkered history with civil3d drawings.

* Plan production view ports losing their settings

* general drawing viewports zoomed extents on return to file

* sluggish drawing files

* corrupt layout tabs

maybe 18 solved these issues?
