My best guess is that Mtext is formatting certain symbols used in conjunction with the "at" sign with non-breaking spaces that I cannot get rid of.
Example: PROPOSED PROFILE @ CL (centerline symbol inserted).
Not all of the symbols do this; see attached dwg.
Intel i7-8700K @ 3.70GHz
64 GB RAM
Windows 10 Pro - v.1709
Civil 3D 2017 SP1

Nancy, not sure what the question or observation is.... I opened your drawing and removed the spaces around the @ symbols without a problem.

I can see what she's saying. Open her file and select one of the text elements. Based on the width, the text SHOULD be going to the NEXT LINE. But it's not. It's acting like the spaces are NON-BREAKING spaces. But what gets me is that it's not just the @ symbol.

Well, this is odd but in Civil 3d 2018.2. I open up the file and all the text objects act and react as normal. This is what it looks like when I open it:

Good to know it will eventually work correctly, but I don't have 2018 yet.

If you copy one of the Mtext entities and past it into MS Word and then turn on Paragraph Marks. You will see that there is a non-standard item between "This" and "@". Looks like a ° symbol.
When replaced by a standard space I see it behaving as normal in 2017.

I've identified this as a non-breaking space. But when I try inserting an @ symbol I don't get that inserted into the text.

That's interesting. Now I just need to find a way to stop Mtext from putting it in there!
