i'm trying to find a subassembly that will act as mountable curbing. i need it to follow the varying slope of my lane. any suggestions?

Pretty sure there's not a OOTB that will do that.   At my old company I made a custom subassembly with SAC.. might want to try that.

Use the urban curb and gutter and adjust the parameters as desired.

You can make all kind of dimensions with it... very versatile subassembly

Like I said.. a custom subassembly is the only way to do it.

 

A lot of people don't understand because it's only done in a few places, but the curb sits on the pavement meaning that as the slop of the pavement changes, the slop of the entire curb needs to match it.

attached is an example i made a long time ago... you then have to go to the construction tab of your assembly and assign the slope of the pavement to the slope of the curb.

How are you building the shape for the mountable curb?  If it accepts an input parameter, use a Link Width & Slope from your CL to the gutter to get the instantaneous road slope, and pass it along to the links making up the top of curb.

I went through all this years ago... you could get the top/bottom slope that way, but the whole thing needs to rotate (front and back face and they are angled) and in my case there is a curve at the front face too... all this is required to show in cross section.. obviously that level of detail isn't needed for surface building... just to meet the outdated and unnecessary requirements of a DOT.

I don't have the technical solution you seek, but I raise the question of whether it actually makes sense to do this.  Will the contractor actually build a formed in placed, variable dimension curb like this?  Every jurisdiction I've ever worked with has had specific dimensions or even machine extrusion forms that they prefer (or more correctly, require us) to use.  Either barrier curbs with specific dimensions, or "rollover" type curbs where it's only 25-50mm of height, allowing vehicles to easily drive up the curb.  There are hand-formed sections to transition between these but it's usually only a short distance.

Nope... plans have to get approved before they can be build tho... and the DOT requires cross sections with that level of detail. Its stupid and unnecessary, but that's the DOT for you.

this isn't a dot project but we use a lot of dot curbing. this curbing is going on the inside of a roundabout for trucks to roll over if necessary. i've got the roundabout modeled and then the engineer came back with this mountable curbing feature. for a quick and dirty fix i was going to build a corridor with a sidewalk subassembly which worked perfectly except it wouldn't sit on top of the road, the top stayed flush with the asphalt. i've used sac before but it's been years so i have to relearn it.

I discovered something interesting (or that I made a basic mistake somewhere).  

 

I did a quick test on parameter passing, using a lane subassembly to pass its slope on to an urban curb & gutter subassembly.  Refer to this thread from 2011/12:

I was hoping the curb & gutter would rotate to follow the lane slope.  I intentionally created a lane sloped at 45 degrees, to make it obvious that the curb was following.  

 

And it didn't work.  My lane is sloped as I expect, but the curb & gutter doesn't follow, it is fixed at -2.0%.  

 

So what's going on?  Is the parameter passing function now broken for urban curb & gutter?  

 

Screenshots below show my finished corridor x-section, and the parameter passing setup in the assembly construction parameters.
