Modify the ANZ Countrykit tool: Barriers (to create 3D guardrails)

Hi!

The ANZ Countrykit is the only kit with the tool to create 3D guardrails from an alignement.

See chapter 7 from:

https://www.autodesk.com/sites/default/files/file_downloads/Productivity%20Tools%20for%20ANZ.pdf

However, the options are quite limited to wirerope, or simple guardrails.
I'd like to add some of the Dutch guardrail types but the tool refers to a .DLL that i don't know how to edit.

If i could just alter a few parameters than the tool would be very usefull for other country types guardrail too.

Anybody here knows how to accomplish this?

From the help file in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\C3D 2023\enu\Data\ToolBox\ANZ\Help -

  •          For AutoCAD blocks (Posts and Terminals) to be read into the Barrier dialog, a single instance of each block must exist in the drawing Modelspace prior to running the command. This is a limitation of the software and will be addressed in a future release.
  •          To add custom Terminals, create a 3D block containing the characters ‘TERM’ (not case sensitive)
  •          To add custom Posts, create a 3D block containing the characters ‘POST’ (not case sensitive)
  •          Sample 3D Terminal and Post 3D blocks can be found in the ANZ template drawing

o   %LocalAppData%\Autodesk\C3D <Version>\enu\Template\_AutoCAD Civil 3D <Version> ANZ Design_RMS.dwt

So you should be able to create your own versions of the terminals and posts to use in the tool.

Hi Andrew,

Yes those options are available, but that doesn't let you change the distance from the W-beam from the alignement. For example we have a symetrical guardrail and unsymetrical one where the front of the W-beam is 40cm from the post, and the back is only 20 cm from the post. Those distances are not ajustable, nor is the height from the W-beams.

Nor can you create a box-girder type of rail like this:

So yes, the posts and terminals are completely customizable, but i'ts the longlitudal elements that i'd like more control about.

hope that this clarifies my question.

That makes it much clearer - I think you are going to have to talk to Autodesk about that those. Or get a custom add-in written, either lisp, .net or dynamo.

A work around for the dual rail is to make a dual sided post, run the tool then mirror the rail from the front to the back.

I for one would like the addition of other common barriers, like concrete barriers.
