Model Space vs. Paper Space

I have created a drawing in model space, and I would really like to view it in paper space in order to prepare it for printing. Whenever I enter paper space (Layout 1), I can no longer see my drawing. That being said, I am confused about the difference between Model Space and Layout 1. Additionally, is there any way I can take only a portion (perhaps a window) from a drawing and transfer it to Paper Space for printing?

Paper Space or Layout is a window to your model space.

For starters, use the MV (MView) command to make a window in your layout. This opens up your window into your model space.  I don't have enough time to walk you through this.  There is plenty of on-line help to get your through this and more than likely much better than I.

Or, go to your layout tab.

Double click in your viewport (create one first if needed), so that you are entering model space via the viewport (like jumping through the viewport)

then on the navigation bar click the view to extents option.

you can zoom/position your view as needed

double click outside of the viewport window (or type PS) to get back our into paperspace.

If you select the viewport frame, then you will be able to set an exact scale for the viewport towards the bottom right of your screen.

Think of Paperspace as an actual piece of paper. Use a Viewport to cut a hole in the paper through which you can see your Modelspace. You can click into the Viewport and use zoom and pan to position the area you want to see and then set an appropriate scale to the Viewport. I often create a View in Modelspace that I can restore in the Viewport to make it easier.

Thanks for your advise Allen. I am currently having another issue. Whenever I view my drawing in model space, my label sizes look fine, but whenever I view the drawing in paper space, the labels appear gigantic. I wanted to ask if maybe anyone knew what the issue could be here.

That is a bug caused by assigning a raster plotter to your layout.  Any raster plot device (e.g., TIFF, JPG, etc.) will cause this problem.  Autodesk has known of a certainty that this bug exists for over four years now and they still haven't fixed it.

The easiest solution is to assign the DWGtoPDF device and plot PDFs.  You can open the resulting PDF and plot it to any physical plot device available.

Otherwise, you must change all of your styles to have 1/12th the size you want.  This will cause all of the annotation to be very small in Model space but it corrects the problem in Paper space.  On top of that you must create custom paper sizes matching the output dpi and the sheet size as well as increase you pen sizes in pen tables to match the dpi of your output when using a raster plot device.  E.g., 24"x36" paper size at 300dpi is 7200px x 10800px; and, pen size need to be increased from the expected size x3 (expected size is always as if the plot is 100dpi from AutoCAD so 300dpi needs to be 3x that).

Autodesk really needs to work on their raster plotting and bring it out of the 1980's.

Please post screenshots of what you see in modelspace as well as what you see in the layout tab.

It could be a scaling issue. Civil 3D displays the labels at a size relative to the scale. If you Viewport scale is different from your Modelspace scale you an see huge (or tiny) Civil 3D labels in a Paperspace Viewport.

2. What is the viewport scale set to (with the VP selected, look at the PROPERTIES Palette -- see the following image for example)?

Can you post your dwg file?  What C3D version (including SP#) are you using?

I do sincerely appreciate your desire to help with this but as I said, Autodesk has confirmed the bug I have described about four years ago.  I worked directly with Autodesk support at an escalated level to examine all of the things you have asked about and more.  Once we confirmed with the Autodesk programmers that it was indeed a bug it was turned over to the product developers with "no promise of when or if they will address it".  It would not serve any purpose to revisit it again now.

P.S. It does still behave this way in 2017.

I did not intend to give that impression.  I make no assumption but rather a conclusion:  This problem is not the same problem as I have most thoroughly exhausted with Autodesk Support with escalation to involve Autodesk programmers.  This was done over 3 years ago.

I should have examined the OP's problem more closely.  Had I done so I would not have offered my two cents.  It has only confused the issue.  I am sorry for that.
