Mobile Application for Viewing Drawings in Field

Does anyone know of a mobile application that will allow me to view AutoCAD drawings on a phone or tablet in the field? In particular, I'd like to be able to use the GPS feature on my phone and see where I am standing relative to AutoCAD linework, since everything we do is on standard coordinate systems.

I work on a lot of projects where we construct improvements through empty fields, and it's difficult to get your bearings without any nearby landmarks. I'd like to be able to see where I am relative to linework of the proposed improvements.

This would just be to get a conceptual idea of where I am and not for construction staking. I wouldn't need any elevations either.

Thanks.

Hi @alexka

The AutoCAD mobile App does have the feature of locating your location on the drawing. It is available for iOS and Android. The App will let you view, edit and measure AutoCAD geometry. Only AutoCAD objects will display though, Civil  3D objects are not supported. There is also a complimentary web app as well but I am not sure if it has the GPS capabilities of the native mobile apps. Be mindful the accuracy of your location on drawing Is totally dependent on your phone/tablet accuracy!

here is additional information link 1and link 2
Hope this helps,

Thanks @samir_rezk

I tested the AutoCAD application before posting to the forum and was able to view my drawings, but not my location.

I looked again, but I can't seem to find the feature/setting allowing me to view my location on the app. Do you know where this might be? I'm on iOS.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi @alexka

My apologies to bring your hopes up!!! the AutoCAD Mobile App used to have a GPS Locator feature, but apparently has been removed sometime late last year! I found this related post indicating it's "temporary" removal!

I know it's not as convenient as mobile app, but if your Laptop is equipped with a GPS sensor, you can also use Civil 3D to locate your self on the drawing! the feature is available on the Geolocation Tab once you assign a Coordinate system to the drawing.

Sorry for the confusion, I was not aware of the latest AutoCAD App update feature removal!

Thanks again @samir_rezk

I wasn't aware that C3D could locate your position with the Geolocation features. That should work for me until the GPS feature is working on the mobile app again.

It looks like I might need to adjust some settings in Windows to allow C3D access to the laptop location sensor before it will work, but I'll give it a try.

Thanks again for your help.
