MMS Files created for referenced surfaces in 2017?

We have been using large data referenced surfaces in 2016 C3D with great success. An MMS file was created for the source surface drawing. Any new drawings that we used the data shortcut surface in would NOT create it's own MMS as (of course) it is just a referenced surface.

In 2017 C3D, any drawing file that we reference the larger surfaces into create their own mms files.

So when we have a set of 6 drawings that use the main surface, we now have 7 mms files.

Can this be fixed/undone? This may require us to double our servers just to use this software.

SP1 is installed.

Thanks for any fix. We have our usual mixed bag of auto cad band-aids & work-arounds, but it is doubling work and server space.

I think it has to do with the new surface caching feature, try disabling, check this link for more info.
