I was learning to create one map books with youtube
everything was right
but when I tried to create a mapbook with selecting the layer in Keyview option, the selected layer show invisible

so, I request help to explain why happens this and how it can solve it.

PD: I have same problem with xref and keyviews, but when I select the wildcard "*" that select all layers, then works perfect. too I tried bind xref drawings and both cases fails keyviews.

Did you check the keymap viewport in your template, to be sure that layer is on and thawed?

I created one template since zero and one template since the file that I want to create mapbook

in both, the keyview does not show the selected layer(s), but that show the wild card "*".I always use purge in all drawings. I did not create layer, but I deleted objects and purged everything.

I tried create the mapbook since multiple copies of the files, templates and dwg drawing.

temporal solution: I found a temporal answer, the command VPLAYER can show one specific layer in all viewports.but I think that not should happends.

question: exist any documentation about use keyview with layers? I already tried searching for, but no luck.

... just curiously, If the problem is the template file, then:

1 how can I create another template without layer problems?

2purge does not work for viewports?

I forgot to mention that civil use 3d in Spanish.

I found more problems: creating dst does not show the subset (create a blank subset name)

I think all those problems happen because of the separate version of SPANISH and English, I hope the developers merge all version and throw language packs like the vanilla AUTOCAD because of so many bugs.

OK. I understand what you are trying to do using Map Book. Unfortunately, you are not adding the layer(s) to your Key Map correctly. You must select, by highlighting blue, the layers you want in your Key Map.

In the ALL LAYERS section, select the desired layer(s). Once selected, click ADD LAYERS FOR KEY MAP button. The selected layers will now appear in the upper section named LAYERS FOR MAP KEY. All layers in this section will appear in the viewport of the Map Key. I'm sure you already know this, the Map Key is only viewable from the layouts you have just created for your Map Book.

Highlight layer=>Add Layers for Map Key.Highlight layer=>Add Layers for Map Key.

thanks for answers.
yes, you are right, when I add a layer as you suggest work no problems.

but I found, maybe, a bug. When I try to add a xref layer, "Autodesk map" changes the layer name added.

for example:

If I add layer name as: "xreforiginal|layer1"
AutoDesk map change the automatically the layer name to: "xreforiginal layer1" (delete the "|" symbol)

so, what should I do in this case?

another problem that I found is that using "external reference" all dwgs should be synchronized with the same axial center points (0,0,0) with the center of the key viewport.

I,m using Spanish version of civil 3d, so I think that maybe it's just a problem for that language, I did not found anything related to those problems.

I hope any developer check this post.

Don't add your xref by the the Layers option. Use External Reference option instead. You will want to create a COPY of the xref.dwg beforehand. You want a copy because you'll be turning off some of the layers in the xref so your Key Map won't be too cluttered.

1-Add xref to Key Map as External Reference, not as a Layer.1-Add xref to Key Map as External Reference, not as a Layer.

Yes. The Key Map should look the same from sheet to sheet. If it's not the same, then you have accidentally, changed the Key's VP scale or used Pan command while the Key VP was active. You may have to MANUALLY adjust each Key Map that's incorrect. Alternatively, you may also try to REBUILD the sheets using one of the option shown below. Which one, I don't know. Try them all to be sure.

2-There are 3 types of Rebuild. Try one or try them all. Whatever works for you is good.2-There are 3 types of Rebuild. Try one or try them all. Whatever works for you is good.

Mucho gracias for replying in english. Your english is better, much better, than my Spanish. Haha! (Or should I say jaja!)

... as commented above, when I tried to use an "external reference", everything works well until you use "plotter"

when you use an external reference, the "map book area" should match with the "external reference area", right?
then the key view show the "external reference area " in the layout.

but when you use plot, the key view update, and the "external reference area" insert points are changed to the center of the insert point of the key view

something like this:

imagen.png

you need to match the same insert point between, center of the key view, external reference area, original drawing map book area

so, that not should happen, then it is a bug or I did something bad?

Nope. There’s no bug. Your Map Book  covers a ‘defined area.’ That area was established when you set up the number of columns and row for your map tiles.  There are different ways create tiles: rows & columns,

The creation of your Map Book is a series of steps. You need to perform each step correctly before proceeding to the next. If your Key Map is not consistent with your external reference, then you have an xref insertion issue, not a key map issue. Fix your xref before you make your Map Book.

I don't think you've defined your 'area' correctly. Also, the images in post 9 don't show your template on your layout. Please create your template first, not last.

As mentioned in post 6 of this thread, you should watch this 8 minute >>VIDEO<< .

210-tiling.JPG

The beginning of the video explains how to create your Main viewport and the Key View. Create the template first, before attempting to create your map tiles.

The video clearly takes you through the map book utility and provides clear instructions along the way. Pay attention to step 3, the creation of the Tiling Scheme. The instructions in this step will help you understand why your main viewport and key map are not in harmony. The tiling scheme section also explains how to Preview your map tiles, how to Refresh the Preview and how to Exit the preview. If you haven't realized it yet, your total map tiles, taken as a composition, is the same as the area shown in your Key Map. When you establish the map tiles then your Key Map will automatically follow.

In terms of creating map books, this video will be the best 8 minute investment you can make because it pays big dividends down the road.

sorry for the late answer.

I did not find time to answer as I should, but I marked your post as a SOLUTION for your help.

If I find another issue or bug or something that I think should change, then I will create another post.
