Hi Ron,
Welcome to the Autodesk Forums.
How are you rotating: UCS or DVIEW>TWIST? What sort of image: Captured Bing Live Maps or GeoTiff?

Hello @ronP6PKG,
If you're using Civil 3D Ariel Mapping then you can show this in your Viewport by Capturing an Area first. This will add in a seperate image to the mapping to a clipped extent to which you can orientate your UCS to.

Hello,
Thank you for the warm welcome and reply. I have spatial manager add on. I am using bing or usgs maps. I am making a small plan and profile for a trenchless crossing. We like to rotate the plan view to be horizontal on the page and align with the stations in the profile view. I click in the VP and type UCS then align it to the alignment and it rotates. When you do that the map image is removed. I understand that I can capture the image first however the quality seems to diminish greatly.

Ron,
Instead of UCS, try command DVIEW >> TWIST.
Unfortunately, Bing Live Maps resolution is what it is, and greatly varies as to scale. You might find better imagery on the internet.
I haven't used Spatial Manager.

Thanks Dave,
I will explore the DVIEW option. I have not heard of that function before. I am familiar with the resolution settings. I appreciate all the input.
Any suggestions where the best online ariel images can be found and are they geo referenced or do you need to scale them?

Ron,
Check your City/County/State for imagery. Add "GIS Download" to your search. More and more imagery and elevation data is freely available. Almost all of it is geo-referenced.
