Making objects visible in one view port and not another at the same time

I want to know if it is possible to have an object, in model space, appear in one viewport and not another.

I have a map view of an area where I am calling out wells, water tanks, and fire hydrants. currently I have them all as SHP files dropped into model space. I would like to have three different layouts with view ports where either the wells, tanks, or fire hydrants are visible without seeing the others. Is there a way to do this?

Absolutely possible, provided the objects are on separate layers.  Layers can be Frozen on a per viewport basis.

The easiest way is to double click into a viewport to make it active and then use the Freeze button from the layers section of the Home ribbon.

Also note that the layer manager will have more optional columns of available in an active viewport than it does in model space.  These additional columns allow for layer settings to be used just for that viewport.

Use the "VP Freeze" column in Layer Properties Manager. (LAYER command.)

If it's layered well, VPFreeze should be effective.

since AutoCAD 2007 command LAYFRZ was introduced.  When used in PaperSpace Viewports - it will freeze an object's layer you click on while command is active.  The layer of this object will be frozen only in this current viewport.  I agree - for this to work well - your layering system should be impeccable to a desirable degree.  Unfortunately if you work in 3D environment in Model Space and you need multiple viewports to see your model - you can not use this effectively as the command will still work, but it will freeze the layers in all the model space Viewports..  This is something to Autodesk to work on.  We need this feature to work in model space, in separate viewport similarly as to papers pace and moreover - we need ISOLATEOBJECTS command to work in each individual viewport either in Modelspace views or Paperspace Viewports individually without effecting other views or viewports.  This would be INVALUABLE TOOL for all the 3D modelers!

I agree with you. You should post this on Civil 3D Ideas Forum.
