Long delay after exiting commands or grip selections

I am experiencing a long delay (10-30 seconds) after I exit any command or grip selection of any type of object.

  • This only happens while I am in a "Layout" (Tilemode=0) and working in ModelSpace through a viewport.
  • The delays do not happen if I edit objects in PaperSpace or if I am fully in ModelSpace (Tilemode=1)

If I start a new dwg using the same template the affected dwg was started with I do not experience any delays.

I have Audited, -Purge\Regapps, Purged, updated my graphics driver, turned off hadware acceleration, deleted temporary files with o changes.

Currently using C3D 2018.2 for this project, but the behavior even occurs if I open the dwg in C3D2020

Any thoughts?

I have heard of layout tabs becoming corrupted, maybe copy/paste the layout objects into a fresh dwg?

Tried recreating the layouts in new dwgs, but the issue returned once I started inserting the required Xrefs.  I suspected it had to do with annotation scales and or Regapps in the Xrefs.  I found this routine on the Autodesk App Store Drawing Purge. I used it to scrape out thousands of Regapps and hundreds of Annotation Scales from several of the Xrefs. Once all the Xrefs and the Dwg file was purged with this app the issue no longer occurs.

Every time an xref is inserted, along with regapps all the annotation scales get imported as well. This can result in thousands of each in your dwg file. Such a lot of "plaque" passed from dwg to dwg. Autodesk needs to solve this constant dwg->dwg infection.
